Phil Kessel bails out Nick Bonino from car trouble with roadside assist

Phil Kessel’s best assist Sunday came well before the Penguins scored any of their seven goals in a Game 5 rout of the Senators.

On the way to PPG Paints Arena, Nick Bonino became stranded on the side of the highway when his truck abruptly broke down. Luckily, Kessel arrived to bail out his former linemate.

?It was weird, Bonino said. All of a sudden the gas didn’t work and the power steering went out. I was on the highway, so I was able to get it to the side and great teammate Phil Kessel came and picked me up, so I owe a lot to Phil for being here tonight. Great guy.

It’s no surprise the B and the K of last year’s famed HBK Line can rely on one another for the occasional roadside helper.

Kessel went on to score his seventh playoff goal and an assist as the Penguins opened a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference finals.

A little detour away from your current job for a second. What went through your head and heart watching the last two teams you worked for (the Penguins and Predators), teams with your fingerprints all over them, play in the Stanley Cup Final this spring?

I lived in Nashville for eight years and Pittsburgh for eight years, still have so many friends in both cities. [Predators] GM David Poile is my mentor and that was his first trip to the Final, so I was probably pulling more for Nashville; but I am happy for all the people I hired in Pittsburgh, and, heck, half the team in Pittsburgh I either drafted or traded for were there and won another Cup. I am happy for the people, because in the end this is a people business. It’s funny the way it goes. My last year in Got Cheap Jerseys Nashville was the ’05 draft, and in the seventh round Patric Hornqvist was the last pick by Nashville. Of Jerseys China course he gets traded to Pittsburgh a couple of years ago and scores the Cup-winning goal.
