Burglars hit Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig’s L.A. home in $170K heist, police say

Burglars hit Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig’s $1.8 million Sherman Oaks home last week and made away with at least $170,000 worth of jewelry and other items, the Los Angeles Police Department said Tuesday (via the Los Angeles Times).

Last month, thieves stole a safe containing $2 million Cheap Jackie Robinson Jerseys in jewelry from singer Alanis Morissette’s home in Brentwood. Also in recent months, former NBA player and current TV analyst Derek Fisher’s home in Tarzana was broken into, as was hip-hop star Nicki Minaj’s Westside home, and burglars are estimated to have stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars in jewelry, police said.

The Mets will need the extra bodies to round out their roster this week after losing 14 players to the World Baseball Classic. While Tebow won’t be the only player added from minor league camp for those games, no one — including the team’s regulars — will get more attention.

Tim Tebow is going to start Wednesday’s game against the Red Sox at designated hitter. He’ll face reigning AL Cy Young Rick Porcello.

As luck would have it, the Mets-Red Sox game already was scheduled to be broadcast by the Mets’ SNY network and picked up nationally by MLB Network. Tune in at 1 p.m. ET and at some point in the game you’ll get a chance to see for yourself how well the former Heisman Trophy winner’s transition to baseball is going.

If you miss it, the combined presence of the New York and Boston baseball media on-site likely will have something to say about him.
