The level of play in college basketball this season is higher than it’s been in years, thanks in large part to a freshman class that has exceeded even the loftiest of expectations. Players such as Josh Jackson, Markelle Fultz, Dennis Smith and Lonzo Ball have already established themselves as likely top 10 picks, with many more stepping up to add to the overall talent level of NCAA game.
“One thing my Pops always told me is you never count another man’s money,” Curry told the Mercury News in a podcast, via ESPN. “It’s what you’ve got and how you take care of it. And if I’m complaining about $44 million over four years, then I’ve got other issues in my life.
“I know just playing basketball for a living, being able to provide for your family, doing what we do, that’s been an amazing kind of opportunity in itself. The game as been really good to me throughout my career. And I hope that continues. … I just try to keep the right perspective, that all that will come when it’s supposed to come.”
Curry — who is outearned by Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Kevin Durant — signed a four-year contract extension in 2012 worth $44 million. He’ll have the opportunity to renegotiate his deal when he becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season but doesn’t intend to do so anywhere other than the Bay Area.
“I can’t,” Curry said. “Like I’ve said from Day 1, when I was first asked about free agency, this is a perfect place to play. Bay Area fans are amazing, our organization’s amazing, we’ve put together an amazing team that’s competing for championships every year. … There’s really no reason Nike NFL Jerseys that I can see right now that would draw me elsewhere.”
With his MVP status, Curry is eligible under the new CBA as a “designated NBA Jerseys Wholesale veteran player” to receive a five-year deal worth about $210 million from Golden State when the time comes.
