Martin Truex Jr. gets emotional win with girlfriend fighting cancer at home

Winning at Charlotte Motor Speedway is often special for drivers as they can celebrate with their family.

Martin Truex Jr.’s girlfriend, Sherry Pollex, wasn’t there to celebrate with him after his victory in the Bank of America 500. So she stayed home and watched on television, posting a photo of herself following the victory.

LARSON’S LONG DAY: His 10th-place finish gave no indication of how good Larson was at Charlotte. He seemed to be as good as Truex late in the race, but an awful pit stop — his tire carrier tripped and fell — dropped him to 12th. Larson still worked his way into the top-four, but he was hit by Kurt Busch late in the race and the damage took him out of contention for racing for the victory.

Earlier in the race, Larson missed his pit box and the gaffe knocked him to 31st in the field. But he clawed his way through traffic and had worked his way into the top five by the end of the first stage.

“I felt like we’ve been better than (Truex) the past two weeks,” Larson said. “Last week was probably the first time in a long time he hasn’t been the most dominant. And Kids Basketball Jerseys Cheap then, he definitely wasn’t dominant today. I felt like I had a car to win. I made a mistake on pit road early. We rebounded from that. And then we had a costly mistake late and somewhat rebounded, but then those last two restarts didn’t go my way.”

UP NEXT: Sunday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway, where Stenhouse Free Shipping Cheap Jerseys won in the spring. Stenhouse has won the last two restrictor-plate races this season.

Tate was modest after his performance.

Phillip Lindsay sparked the offense for Colorado (3-3, 0-3) with a career-high 281 yards rushing and three touchdowns on a school-record 41 carries.

Colorado was its own worst enemy in dropping a third straight conference game. The Buffaloes committed 12 penalties for 110 yards, including two late hits.

Despite all that, Colorado trailed 45-42 after Lindsay’s 11-yard TD run with 5:04 remaining. But Tate picked up a big third-down conversion with his arm — an 8-yard strike to Bryce Wolma — and then clinched the game with his long third-down run with just over a minute remaining.

“I think that puck’s still sitting back up there,” said Toronto netminder Fredrik Andersen. “Not a lot of guys can stop that puck in this league. Hell of a goal.”

Matthews’s goal came on a 2-on-1 and capped three in a row to erase Chicago’s 3-1 lead.

“I just walked in and tried to fake a pass, get (Forsberg) leaning a bit and snuck it by him,” Matthews said.

“I thought we showed a lot of poise being able to crawl back into Detroit Tigers Cheap Jerseys it,” he added. “As the game went on we got better and better and that’s the way you want to play.”

Matthews played much of the night matched up against Chicago’s top line with Patrick Kane. Matthews finished with six shots on net and the winning goal while Kane, who entered with 22 points in 13 career games against Toronto, finished minus-three with one shot and no points.

Nikita Zaitsev, Connor Brown and James van Riemsdyk also scored China Cheap Jerseys Wholesale for the Maple Leafs, who have won their first three games.

Kopitar scores twice to lead Kings past Sharks, 4-1

Anze Kopitar and the Los Angeles Kings were mostly pleased with their first road game of the season.

Kopitar scored twice, Dustin Brown and Nick Shore also scored and the Kings beat the San Jose Sharks 4-1 on Saturday night.

“That’s a good indication of what we want to accomplish and how we want to play,” Kopitar said. “We didn’t score on the power play but we moved the puck around and if we continue to move it like that, we’ll create a lot of opportunities.”

Jonathan Quick stopped 24 of 25 shots to earn the victory for the Kings, who won their road opener for first-year coach John Stevens.

“I thought we created a lot and didn’t give up much,” Stevens said. “That was a scenario for a good start. Johnny again, his leadership was solid. He got out and handled a lot of pucks. He steered pucks away, got whistles. He just was a calming force back there whenever they did get some momentum.”

Mikkel Boedker scored for the Sharks, who have lost their first two home games. Martin Jones, a former Kings goalie, turned back 25 of 29 shots before he was replaced by Aaron Dell with 5:55 left in the second period.

“We really weren’t in the game,” Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said. “There Vancouver Canucks Cheap Jerseys were some stretches where we kidded ourselves that we were in the game but we weren’t in the game.”

Conversely, Jamie Benn has started the season with zero points and a Cheap Youth Football Jerseys minus-1 rating through two games, which included him playing under 16 minutes in a loss to the expansion Vegas Golden Knights. Still, he’s Jamie Benn. There’s no reason he should fall out of the top-10 fantasy assets at this point of the season.

Colorado: The Buffaloes have a steep climb ahead for any fleeting shot at defending their Pac-12 South crown.

Colorado dominated the time of possession, 35:54 to 24:06 … Colorado QB Steven Montez threw three TD passes. … Kicker James Stefanou’s 50-yard attempt to end the first half curved wide left. The miss snapped a streak of nine straight field goals for the 30-year-old freshman from Australia.

Colorado had a 19-play, 85-yard drive that took 9 minutes, 34 seconds. It was fittingly capped off by Lindsay’s 1-yard TD plunge. Lindsay had 14 carries for 80 yards on the drive, including picking up two short fourth-down conversions.

“Second period they had 10 scoring chances so (Forsberg) did a good job keeping the lead for us.”

Zach Hyman created a scoring chance for himself early in the third only to be turned aside by Forsberg.

Forsberg’s play allowed the Blackhawks to restore their two-goal lead 7:52 into the third.

Panik took the puck off the end boards after it ricocheted in front from a point shot and slotted it into an empty net on the power play.

Leafs coach Mike Babcock started shuffling his lines late in the third and it paid off with two goals in less than three minutes.

First, Brown beat Forsberg with Leo Komarov setting the screen in front with seven minutes to go in regulation.

Then, van Riemsdyk tied the game on the power play, deflecting a Tyler Bozak Super Cheap Jerseys China shot past Forsberg with 4:18 remaining.

Both clubs entered the night with a league-high 15 goals for Wholesale NHL Jerseys in their first two games. … Leafs defenseman Connor Carrick was replaced in the lineup by Andreas Borgman.

Coach Joel Quenneville was more specific about Saad.

Freshman Sam Ehlinger passed for 380 yards and two touchdowns in his third career start for Texas. He also ran for 107 yards, using his legs for big gains on the game-tying Wholesale Jerseys All drive in the fourth quarter and to set up Warren’s game-winning score in overtime. Ehlinger even helped moved the pile.

“We got a big push and won the physical battle,” Ehlinger said.

Kansas State (3-2, 1-1) quarterback Jesse Ertz threw touchdown passes of 82 and 12 yards to Dalton Schoen in the first half. But Ertz took himself out of the game after an awkward trip and fall on a short run in the third quarter. “His quickness has been very noticeable” Quenneville said. “Quick Top Cheap Jerseys to pucks, quick to beating a guy to the net. That line (Saad-Toews-Panik) was excellent again tonight.”

Chicago center Nick Schmaltz was hit hard by two defensemen as Kane scored the opening goal 1:33 in. He later left the game with an upper-body injury and is expected to miss at least two games, Quenneville said.

Jon Dorenbos’ heart surgery went well, former coach Doug Pederson says

Eagles coach Doug Pederson announced some good news during his press conference Wednesday.

The president, who earlier Sunday had tweeted that fans should boycott the NFL if the league didn’t crack down on national anthem protests, apparently liked some of what he saw Sunday, specifically the players standing in solidarity.

The president tweeted, “Great solidarity for our National Anthem and for our Country. Standing with locked arms is good, kneeling is not acceptable. Bad ratings!”

There were some unprecedented moments during pregame ceremonies before the 1 p.m. games. All of the Pittsburgh Steelers, with the exception of lineman Alejandro Villanueva, a U.S. Army veteran and Bronze Star recipient, stayed in the locker room during the national anthem at Soldier Field. Several NFL owners joined their players on the field in a show of support.

But time expired before the Giants could get the snap off and a delay of game penalty was called. The Giants settled for a field goal, the last points they would score in a 24-10 loss.

McAdoo was upset with quarterback Eli Manning, a 14-year veteran, four-time Pro Bowler and two-time Super Bowl MVP, and was openly critical of Manning after the game.

Manning was sacked five times and hit another eight times as the Lions harrassed him the entire game. He finished 22 of 32 for 239 yards with a touchdown and interception.

“I didn’t like the interception,” McAdoo said. “It happened fast for him. I thought he should’ve went to No. 2 or checked the ball down. He was under duress all night, thought he did some New York Jets Cheap Jerseys good things in the pocket, making some plays under duress, but the whole NFL Jerseys Outlet offense needs work.”

Attorneys: Retired NFL players victimized by predatory lenders, advisers

Hundreds of retired NFL players have been preyed upon by unscrupulous lenders and advisers seeking a slice of a nearly $1 billion concussion settlement, the players’ attorneys said Tuesday in federal court in Philadelphia, the New York Times reported.

The claims stem from the settlement the former players agreed to that provides up to $5 million to players with dementia, Parkinson’s disease and other serious neurological conditions related to trauma sustained while playing football.

Olsen had surgery on Monday to repair the fifth metatarsal on his right foot, which Panthers head athletic trainer Ryan Vermillion called “a Jones fracture.” Olsen had a screw inserted to repair the fracture.

Olsen was trying to cut during a second-quarter play against the Bills when he “felt something” in his foot. Next Sunday’s game against the Saints will be the first game the 11-year veteran will miss since his rookie season with the Bears. Olsen has been selected to three straight Pro Bowls after becoming the first tight end in NFL history with three consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons.

“The only thing that he has to do now is heal,” Vermillion said. “I know Nike NFL Jerseys China Greg will be around and he’ll be involved. He’s a team guy. He’ll try to do Personalized Cheap Jerseys everything he can to help this team continue to win.”

Rookie fullback Alex Armah was promoted from the practice squad to take Olsen’s spot on the active roster.

Arbitrator Harold Henderson denied Elliott’s appeal, but Judge Mazzant blocked the penalty.

A few more player-friendly coaches won’t shift the prevailing wisdom of NFL owners overnight. Owners are old and rich, and those are hard people to sway. Still, an increasingly more mindful NFL Cheap Kids Jerseys NBA feels antithetical to the one we know. A league that knows that it can have fun and engage its players as individuals along the way towards completing its very important business seems new and good. There is no turning back now — I believe that. — and though it hasn’t been yet, the top will be affected at some point.

The NFL doesn’t have to suck in all ways. Oh, the Jets, Browns, Jaguars, 49ers, Rams, and company will make sure there’s still putrid football to watch (I mean, look at this), but the assumption that players will stoop to the NFL’s stodgy, outmoded way of things forever, I think, is wrong. Yes, the NFL is big and powerful and making Scrooge McDuck money despite what the ratings say. It is also capable of flying into a soul-rattling panic, just like any of us when we’re confronted by something that has no fear presenting the shit we need to see.

“It’s definitely been a tough last 14 months,” Elliott said. “At times it’s gotten so hard you start to lose faith.”

A former girlfriend accused Elliott of domestic violence on separate occasions in July 2016 in Columbus, Ohio. The city attorney’s office did not pursue charges against Elliott, citing inconsistent evidence. The NFL’s personal conduct policy does not require the same burden of proof for a player to be found in violation. The league said it had persuasive evidence Elliott committed violence against Tiffany Thompson on multiple occasions in levying the suspension.

“Just kind of your name getting dragged through the mud,” Elliott Cheap Liverpool Jerseys said when asked what the hardest part has been. “It’s been 14 months. Just kind of being associated with that, that’s tough.”

Kizer vaulted into a half-scissor kick in the end zone and energized the stadium.

Payton clearly has an idea in mind for Peterson. Otherwise, Peterson wouldn’t have remained on the Week 1 roster, which guaranteed his $1 million base salary.

Peterson’s action may increase if the Saints get a lead or face an opponent that struggles to stop the run. Maybe it will take an injury to Ingram or Kamara for that to happen. Maybe Peterson becomes midseason trade bait for a team in need of running back help.

Or maybe the player nicknamed “All Day” decides to call it a day and begin the countdown to his eventual Pro Football Hall of Fame induction. The thought should at least cross his mind after Monday night’s embarrassment.

There’s no need to anoint Kizer as the guy — future, franchise or any other superlative — after one game. The Browns are starting their second trip through the quarterback alphabet since 1999, and Kizer, i.e. No. 27, showed enough in his debut that Cleveland should be comfortable monitoring his progress. Browns coach Hue Jackson made it clear Kizer earned the right to be in this position.

Kizer is indeed Cleveland’s guy. He recovered from a disastrous first possession that led to a third-and-23 and a blocked punt for a Steelers touchdown. Only this wasn’t the same old Browns quarterback. Kizer converted a pair of third-downs — one with a pass to Duke Johnson and another on a sneak — to set up his first career TD on a one-yard run that tied the game.

The Browns, however, wouldn’t convert another third down without the help of a penalty. Cleveland finished 3 of 12 on third down, and that’s the key for any rookie quarterback.

“He made some plays,” Jackson said. “He did some good things on third down. That Cheap Jerseys With Free Shipping is the money down for a quarterback. He just didn’t make enough plays on third down. There Cheap Jerseys Hot were some other opportunities there.”

New coach Sean McDermott understands the concerns around the gutsy moves he and new general manager Brandon Beane have made of late.

For all the promise assigned to rookie running back Joe Mixon, he produced just nine yards on eight carries in his debut. The Bengals’ tailback depth, with Mixon supporting accomplished veterans Cheap Ireland Jerseys Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill, amassed only 75 yards on 21 carries, or 3.6 per rush.

However, the most galling development was the woeful performance of veteran quarterback Andy Dalton, who completed 16 of 31 attempts for 170 yards with four interceptions. He posted a 28.4 passer rating and, by that metric, delivered his worst showing since Nov. 6, 2014, when he passed for 86 yards with three interceptions in a 24-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

Former NFL GM Jeff Diamond, a Sporting News contributor, went as far as to write that McDermott and Beane are risking their jobs in overhauling the roster they inherited.

Buffalo on Monday announced the signing of a fourth quarterback, Joe Webb, with whom McDermott and Beane are familiar from their days in Carolina. Webb will back up rookie QB Nathan Peterman, who is slated to start Sunday’s 2017 season opener against the Jets if Tyrod Taylor can’t be cleared in time.

The Bills’ QB issue comes amid the unpopular ousting of players like Cheap Jerseys And Jordans Jonathan Williams, Sammy Watkins, Ronald Darby and Reggie Ragland. McDermott on Monday was asked whether he expected Buffalo to have so few holdovers from its 2016 roster.
